Alaskan Byways Bed and Breakfast is ideally located at the edge of town. Less than a mile to historical downtown Hope, Alaska, you can drive or walk the well trodden path local residents enjoy. Your newly renovated Vacation Rental is locally known as the Hershey House. The Hershey House was built in 1904 for the Hershey family, owners and operators of the Hershey Mine during Hope’s gold rush era.

The B & B is ideal for the traveler who wants a house to themselves, couples, families, or friends traveling together. Nestled on a hill surrounded by white birch, the three bedroom home is secluded yet only minutes away from great dining, fishing, and hiking. The modern kitchen is completely equipped, a hot shower is waiting, laundry facilities are provided, and your comfy beds are ready to tumble into.
Your continental breakfast includes breakfast cereals, juice, coffee and, bagels and cream cheese. In the evening, you can cook up fresh salmon that you’ve caught in one of the nearby streams or talked out of one of the local boys. Remember, Hope is 85 miles away from the nearest supermarket, so if you are staying for a week you’ll want to either stop at the grocery store before you head out or plan to enjoy the home cooking at one of our local cafes. Hope’s general store does carry a variety of staple foods: most dairy products, bread, canned goods, packaged mixes, soda, etc. With a valid ID, you can also purchase your fishing license at the store.

Your hosts, Skip and Lisa Dent are Alaska Sourdoughs. Skip has lived and mined in Hope for more than 25 years. His daughter and grandchildren still live here. Skip’s hiked and worked all over this part of the state. Lisa was born and raised in Alaska. If she doesn’t know the answer to your question, she’ll find one before you leave.
Hope is a small community nestled in one of the most beautiful places on earth. You can choose to enjoy the beauty in solitude or you can opt for recreation: hiking, backpacking, biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, world class guided drift boat and hike-in fishing trips, Alaska's best whitewater rafting, gold panning, or freshwater fishing for salmon and trout.
Downtown at the library, you can access the internet, find locally made gifts at the library gift shop, and visit Hope’s historical museum. There is a resident art gallery, several cafes, and at the end of the day treat yourself to a massage at Hope Healing Arts.
Your Alaskan experience is right here, waiting for you. Come and enjoy. |
